EUREOS - Information and teaching platform for EoE
Eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE) and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) are the most prevalent chronic oesophageal inflammatory conditions in children and adults in the western world with increasing incidence rates.
EUREOS is an European association of healthcare professionals founded in 2015 with the aim to raise awareness on EoE within the medical community as well as provide valuable information to patients.

Aim of EUREOS
EUREOS was founded in 2015 with the following aim:
- Establish and maintain an European network and a communication platform for physicians and researchers with a specific interest in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and eosinophilic gastro-enteritis and/or eosinophilic colitis
- Planning, supporting and coordinating training and other educational activities in the field of eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases
- Supporting and coordinating research projects about eosinophilic gastro-intestinal diseases
- Being a contact, advice and information organization for patients, physicians and pharmaceutical companies
Achievements
EUREOS is constantly growing, to build an EoE network and communication platform for physicians & patients:
- EUREOS is currently supported by 219 members from 53 different European countries
- EoE CONNECT, a European Registry of Clinical, Environmental and Genetic Determinants in Eosinophilic Esophagitis, has included more than 2,700 patients
- EUREOS has published expert statements on PPI-REE, diagnostic criteria and food hypersensitivity
- EUREOS is now supported by nine industry partners

Prof. Arjan Bredenoord, M.D., Ph.D.
Albert J (Arjan) Bredenoord (1977), MD is Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam and professor of Neurogastroenterology & Motility at the University of Amsterdam.
Dr Bredenoord studied Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. He subsequently worked on several clinical research projects on GI motility at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands which resulted in a PhD thesis on gastroesophageal reflux disease in 2006. His clinical training was performed in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands and at the Royal London Hospital in London, UK. He currently works as a consultant Gastroenterologist at the Amsterdam Medical Center where he is dedicated to patients care, scientific research and education in the field of benign esophageal diseases.
His main focus is on achalasia, reflux disease and eosinophilic esophagitis. He is one of the pioneers of high-resolution manometry and impedance monitoring of the esophagus. The esophageal clinic in the AMC Amsterdam hosts the largest population of benign esophageal diseases in the Netherlands. Dr Bredenoord is an author of over 250 papers, books and book chapters on esophageal diseases and organizes regular courses in Europe, North America and Asia. Dr Bredenoord is President of the European Society of Eosinophilic Esophagitis EUREOS, Editor of the journal Neurogastroenterology and Motility and co-founder of the International HRM working group.

Gastroenterologist in Private Practice in Hamburg since 2010. Previous appointments at the Departments of Gastroenterology, Universities of Dresden and Magdeburg. Member and current Vice-President of the European Microscopic Colitis Group (EMCG) since 2010, Member of the German Guideline „Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease“ 2014. Member of the German Guidelines „Helicobacter pylori and Ulcer Disease“ 2009 and 2016, Member of the German Guideline „Esophageal Cancer“ 2015. Member and current treasurer of EUREOS since 2013. Coauthor of the EUREOS Guideline 2017. Special clinical research interest in eosinophilic esophagitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and Helicobacter pylori.
PD Dr. med. Luc Michel Biedermann
Board certification as specialist for Gastroenterology & Hepatology since 2012 and Internal Medicine since 2008. Clinical practise and research activity in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology of the University Hospital Zurich (USZ), Switzerland, since 2010 focussing on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Head of IBD, USZ, since August, 2017. Head of the EoE-outpatient clinic of the USZ with Prof. Alex Straumann since 2016. Member of the Swiss Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (SGG), the Swiss Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis Union (SMCCV), the Neurogastro-Motility Network (Swiss NGM), the European Crohn’s & Colitis Organisation (ECCO), the European Society for the Study of Celiac Disease (ESsCD) and the American Gastroenterologcal Association AGA. Member of the Steering Committee of the Swiss IBDnet. Amongst the main clinical and research interests are epidemiology, natural history and course of IBD, clinical trials in IBD, intestinal microbiota in IBD, environmental factors in IBD, fecal transplantation and recurrent Clostridium difficile infection, celiac disease and of course EoE.
Dr. Helen Larsson, MD, PhD
Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, NU-Hospital Group, Trollhättan, Sweden
Helen Larsson studied medicine in Gothenburg, Sweden 2001-2007. Since 2007 she works at NÄL hospital (NU-hospital Group), Trollhättan Sweden and became specialist in otorhinolaryngology Head and neck surgery 2016. Helens clinical work is mainly focusing on patients with oro- pharyngeal and esophageal dysphagia, including esophageal laboratory for pH and motility as well as endoscopies with both flexible and rigid technique.
Helens clinical work with EoE-patients and EoE-research started at 2009 and resulted in the PhD thesis “Aspects on the management of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis” in 2015. Helen has ongoing research collaborations with among others: Assoc. prof. Mogens Bove (ENT- dep. NU-hospital group), Professor Christina Wennerås (Dep. Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) and Henrik Bergquist, Assoc. Prof. (ENT Head and neck surgery) both at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dr. Matteo Ghisa
Matteo Ghisa is currently affiliated to the Department of Surgical, Oncological and Gastroenterological Sciences (DISCOG) at the University of Padova, Italy. His research interests focus on EoE, neurogastroenterology and motility, gastroesophageal reflux disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
